A whitish-blue 1.1 ct rainbow moonstone set in a shiny, black pendant.
The exceptional whitish-blue shimmer envelops the jewel with every movement. The fascination of this pendant lies in the colourful interplay of this gemstone with its shiny surrounding surface which can only remind you of the moon’s shimmering shine.
Moonstone
Moonstone owes its name to its unique shine which is strongly reminiscent of moonshine. A main feature of this gemstone is the milky bluish luster or so-called shiller which covers the complete surface of the gem especially when the jewel is turned or the light source moved. This effect is known as adularescence. The reason for this is the exceptional crystal structure of this special stone since moonstone is made up of many individual lamellae that have fused together during their formation. The light reflectance of these lamellae is what causes this silvery bluish shiller. Moonstones are usually cabochon cut in order to emphasise this effect. Some moonstones even display cat’s eye effect a reflectance effect known as chatoyancy.
It is hardly surprising that this beautiful gemstone has been a core element in the world of jewellery.
